It’s been a long time coming, but the rapidly growing area of Ormiston in south east Auckland now has a brand new town centre.

Ormiston Town Centre opened at the end of March, decades after it was first talked about at council level and then after a Covid-affected construction period.

The centre is seen as the heart of one of Auckland’s most comprehensively planned new suburbs.

It’s part of a masterplan for the area which involved Panuku Development Auckland, the Auckland Council, NH Architecture, Jasmax architects and of course the developers, the Todd Property Group.

The centre, which sits beside the vast Sir Barry Curtis Park, will one day be complemented by civic amenities such as a library and pool.

The rapid residential growth of the area was predicted by the the then Manukau City Council which earmarked the land for the centre more than two decades ago.

Part of a 19-hectare development of Auckland Council land around Ormiston Road in south-east Auckland, Ormiston Town Centre is a $250 million-plus development which has been under construction since October 2018.

The opening of the Centre was delayed from October 2020 to March 2021 because of construction delays caused by COVID-19 related restrictions.

Todd Property Group managing director Evan Davies says the team “set out with a clear vision to create a space for the community to occupy and make their own.”

“At opening we have delivered the bones of what was promised - a place for the community with high-quality and thoughtful design, generous and engaging public spaces and everyday convenience. Post-opening, we will continue working hard to bring new, worthwhile and interesting experiences to this community,” said Davies.
